Getting fired and Helping people make money from home with Proofreading course idea→ $200K/Month

How a personal attack, humiliation and job loss pushed Caitlin to start her own business.

Hello Rebels

🏖️ Fun one-liner:

Why did the entrepreneur wear running shoes to a business meeting? Because they're always ready to sprint towards opportunities!”

Onto Today’s story…

Caitlin Pyle got fired from her job and she got humiliated. She was done working for others.

Even though Caitlin didn’t knew anything about building an online business, she decided to just start and learn as she went.

Using her obsession of Proofreading, she built the biz  proofreadanywhere.com

Now she is making $200k/month. Super inspiring!.

Here is how she did it.

Caitlin Pyle’s journey began while studying abroad in Germany, where she discovered her talent for proofreading by helping fellow students.

She never thought that she would ever be able to make money with proofreading.

Upon returning to the United States, Caitlin fell into a routine of finding jobs, hating them, and moving on until the next one wore off, realizing that desk jobs weren't for her.

The turning point came when a company fired Caitlin and personally attacked her character.

That is when she decided that she is done working for others.

In 2012, Caitlin started proofreading transcripts for court reporters from home, gradually building her client base and earning up to $4,000 a month.

She was convinced that was the most money she would ever make.

But things took a different route.

Soon enough, people started asking Caitlin how she was able to proofread from home and be successful.

So she wrote a little eBook to guide people through the process.

She thought that would be it, but then people started asking her questions.

The eBook's popularity also grew, and people wanted even more details on how to make money proofreading from home.

In 2014, Caitlin launched proofreadanywhere.com as a blog.

Question after question came in. That is when she realized that more people wanted more information.

Then she created a course, covering topics such as the basics of proofreading, how to find clients, and how to market your services.

She structured the information in a step-by-step format to make it easy for students to follow and implement.

She says, "When people keep asking you for more knowledge on the subject, you know you're going in the right direction and you have found your ideal market."

Caitlin's startup costs were minimal, as she initially did all the work herself, including creating the course, eBook, and design of the website.

She spent nearly 16 hours a day building her business from the ground up, focusing on providing solutions to the problems people faced and answering their questions.

She launched her course to an email list of just nine people.

She was originally nervous to launch her business because she had quit so many things in the past -- she figured this wouldn't be any different.

She paid for less than two years on her domain because she was certain it wouldn't take off.

Turns out she was wrong.

She says "The biggest lesson I learned is that you never know exactly what will take off -- and it's always a good idea to take a chance on yourself."

To attract and retain customers, Caitlin employs three key strategies: genuinely caring about her students' success,

running targeted ads on platforms like Pinterest and Facebook, and frequently emailing students and future students,

responding to their comments and emails to build trust with her audience.

The Proofread Anywhere blog features high-quality content and drives a significant portion of her traffic.

Additionally, affiliates play a crucial role in spreading the word about the courses and how it helped people to make money from home.

Caitlin attracted and incentivized affiliates by offering competitive commission rates and providing them with marketing materials and support.

Caitlin says most of her traffic comes through paid ads and affiliates.

Caitlin's business has evolved from her working 16-hour days on her blog to now being semi-retired,

with a team of eight running the day-to-day operations.

She has learned that the only limits to what one can achieve are determined by their beliefs and willingness to take action.

She says it's vital to take action -- so many people want to wait until everything is perfect to start,

but it's much better to just start and continually improve -- what you're working on is never going to be perfect!

She says, "I love having the freedom to still help people without having to work all the time.

In fact, I now work because I want to, not because I have to."

She also learned the importance of systems like setting up evergreen webinars and funnels,

which are automated while still providing value and help to those who want to do proofreading for a living.

These automated processes, such as pre-recorded webinars and email sequences, allowed Caitlin to scale her business and

reach more people without having to be present all the time.

Proofreadanywhere continued to grow.

She now makes $200k/Month.

Caitlin says…

"The biggest thing I could share is to get out of your own head and

focus on who you are helping instead of your own problems.

Focus on solving problems."
