From underachiever to an accidental $500K/month entrepreneur: The transformative journey of Mike Doehla

Hello Rebels

🏖️ Fun one-liner:

Why did the entrepreneur take up astronomy? Because they're not afraid to reach for the stars!”

Onto Today’s story….

Mike Doehla was an underachiever, lost in life and never had any plans for his future.

He accidentally started strongerU and provided a unique nutrition solution that worked for people who wanted to get fit and healthy, when nothing else worked.

He now makes $500k/Month.

Here is how he did it.

Mike worked in Human Resources, and people considered him an underachiever.

He didn't have any real passion for his work and no plan for the future.

He didn't have much money and was a little worried about his future.

One could say he was the guy that waited for things to happen instead of making them happen.

He knew he needed to make some changes, or he'd be trapped forever.

He wanted to do something creative that provided him a purpose in life, but he had no idea what that was.

One time a friend asked him about his life goals.

He thought of everything from personal life to professional life.

He didn't really know what he wanted to do.

However, he knew it was something that would make a difference for people while providing him with enough money to pay his modest bills.

After a lot of thinking, he found that he loved fitness and nutrition.

He started training people part-time in his garage, but it didn't work out as expected.

The whole "If you build it they will come" concept wasn't actually true.

Nobody seemed to care about his cold little garage when there were so many other options.

He didn't blame them either.

This experience taught him the importance of providing exceptional service and customer experience and that he couldn't just depend on a good product.

Fortunately, after a year of trying to make the garage gym work, he was able to pivot to what people really needed with nutrition.

He wanted to provide a nutrition solution that worked for people when nothing else worked.

He knew everyone pretty much knew what to eat, but they didn't know how to eat.

That's what he wanted to fix.

In his earlier years, he had researched and experimented with various foods, such as whole grains, lean proteins, and healthy fats, to be healthy and alert.

Mike began sharing his knowledge about nutrition on Facebook,

emphasizing the importance of understanding how to eat well rather than just what to eat.

Soon after, he got his first client, Syndi, who took a chance on his advice.

She achieved remarkable results, losing 50 pounds and maintaining her weight loss for over a year.

This opened the door for many more people to trust in Mike's systems and expertise.

He named his business Stronger U.

To create Stronger U's unique approach, Mike reverse-engineered the dieting process,

addressing the shortcomings of traditional diets and focusing on providing a sustainable, long-term solution.

His "Structured Flexibility" approach allows members to eat their favorite foods, while staying within personalized protein, fat, and carb targets.

He also emphasized the importance of support and community, providing members with lifetime access to a Facebook group,

where they could connect with others on similar journeys.

While other diets made up arbitrary rules like meal timing,

cutting carbs, butter in coffee, sugar being the devil, etc.,

Mike thought it just didn't make sense.

So Mike did the opposite.

He showed the science behind what they were teaching,

which was based on real research,

such as studies on the importance of calorie balance and macronutrient ratios for weight loss.

Most diets are only worried about the short term.

But Mike wanted to get people to think long term and make lifelong changes and get people out of the dieting rat race.

His startup costs were minimal,

with Mike initially running the business from his phone and using spreadsheets to track customers' progress.

He didn't really know what he was doing business-wise,but he knew he had a solution to something people needed.

So he did one of those "Ready Fire Aim" things, where he just started and kept figuring out the next steps.

He knew that making customer-based decisions and not money-driven decisions was better in the long run.

As the business grew, Mike remained focused on providing exceptional customer service and genuinely caring about his members' success.

Once he achieved a steady flow of income, he quit his job.

He says business will grow as long as these three things are taken care of:

offer a product that works, focus on customer experience, and focus on helping the customer.

While they have experimented with advertising,

they have found that word-of-mouth referrals by encouraging members to share their experiences have been the most effective ways to attract new customers.

They also introduced a referral program that offered members a free session for every five friends or family members they refer.

But Mike believes that members would recommend Stronger U regardless, given the life-changing results they experience.

Stronger U continued to grow and made profits.

He also launched additional services, such as Stronger U Fitness, a personalized exercise program, and

the Stronger Youth program, aimed at providing proper education and tools for the younger population to develop healthy habits early on.

Mike fondly remembers a moment when a member reached out to him,

sharing how Stronger U not only helped her lose weight but also gave her the confidence to pursue her dreams

and start her own business.

This reaffirmed Mike's belief in the impact of his work on people's lives.

Mike says…

"I just never thought someone like me could do something awesome."

"I feel we all have some untapped potential somewhere, and all we need is the right opportunity to get it out."

Mike's business, Stronger U, continued to grow, and they now make $500k/Month.

He says to dream big but act small and take one step at a time.
